Flight Risk (2025)

Genre: Action Thriller

Director: Best Director of the Year (Mel Gibson)

Introduction:

For those of you who are fond of suspenseful flying narratives, let me tell you about Flight Risk. The film is very much Die Hard set in the sky, but this time the conversations are much more eloquent, and it’s more civilized. This movie was so exciting, I lost my flight in real life! Now, how is that for a review?

Plot Summary (No Spoilers):

In Flight Risk, Captain James “Maverick” Daniels is a well respected pilot, and he is on what appears to be a standard flight across the country. Fret not. It really isn’t standard. There’s a risk bearing passenger onboard who’s got several sensational pieces to a puzzle left behind by a terrorist group, and it is a race against the clock to ensure the aircraft doesn’t plummet. Once you think you’re coping with all the madness? Oh, look! Turbulence.

Performances

The Captain Daniels role is handled perfectly by the main character in the film. He delivers both charisma and grit. The relationship among the flight crew also, surprisingly, makes for some funny moments even during the mayhem. I cannot forget the villian of the film – their calculative nature gave me goosebumps.

Direction & Cinematography:

Balancing fast-paced action and suspense is daunting, yet the director balanced them perfectly. The camera work? Engaging and crisp. You truly feel you are in the cockpit dodging missiles and having to make split-second decisions. The wide shots of the airplane cutting through clouds are even better! Chef’s kiss.

Soundtrack:

Let me preface this by saying that the soundtrack is incredible. The action beats during the sequences build tension perfectly, and there is a haunting piano piece that remains long after the credits roll.

Pros & Cons:

Pros:

  • Fast-paced easy to follow plot
  • Impressive acting from everyone
  • Great aerial cinematography

Cons:

  • Parts of the movie are predictable
  • Cheesy one-liners
Verdict:

From takeoff to landing, it is a ride that keeps you on your seat. If you want a movie that is pumping with heart and explosions, this will not disappoint. Just know, you will probably not see commercial flights the same after this.
